Time frame; After their second marriage.
Khushi wound her arms around Arnav’s waist, Arnav raised his eyebrow, “What’s the matter Khushi?”
She reached for his hand and placed it against her stomach, “I’m pregnant Arnavji.”
He pulled back releasing his hand from her stomach. She looked up in surprise, “Arnavji?”
Arnav clenched his jaw before announcing his next words, “Abort it.”
Khushi felt like her breath stopped, she managed to let out in a small whisper, “W whhat?”
He exclaimed with disgust, “I don’t want that nasty blood of yours!”
She felt her entire form trembling, she just stared at him while he continued, “Your amma, Garima, she snatched everything from me…”
Khushi asked, “At our wedding didn’t you say you were going to put it all behind us and start fresh…”
He interrupted her, “It’s easier said than done. I can’t do this anymore. You expect me to happily accept you, you are her daughter…” He pointed to Khushi’s stomach, “I can’t bear the thought of that thing, her grandchild!”
Khushi clutched her stomach and a sob escaped her mouth. “It’s a baby, not a thing. Its your baby too… I thought you… you loved me”
“That’s your misconception, I don’t think I can love you anymore. Save the tears Khushi.” He said ruthlessly.
Khushi was unable to take any more pain, she began feeling dizzy. She saw Arnav’s molten brown eyes last, and then it went all blank.
“Nooo no no no no!” Khushi repeatedly shouted while tossing and turning in her sleep.
Arnav woke up instantly and caressed her arm, “Khushi… wake up!!” He shook her shoulders in attempt to wake her up.
She opened her eyes and gasped realising it was all just a dream. She immediately hugged Arnav tightly.
They remained in this position for a while. This was a routine for them that began a few days ago, during the night, Khushi would have a startling dream and Arnav would wake her up, then she would seek solace in his arms. At first Arnav was worried but after a doctor’s consult, they found out it was normal during pregnancy.
Arnav felt her release her grip on him, he asked, “Are you okay?”
She closed her eyes remembering her dream.
He caressed her shoulders, “Khushi relax, the doctor said having these kinds of dreams during your pregnancy is completely normal” Arnav pulled her back into his arms, trying to comfort her.
“Hmm… maybe you’re right.” Khushi whispered against his chest.
She asked in a low voice, “Arnavji did you really forgive Amma?”
Arnav pulled away just enough to see her face, “Of course I did Khushi. Dad was equally to blame… I’ve told you this before, but why are you…”
Khushi shook her head, “Nothing…” Before he could ask her another question she stated, “I’m feeling sleepy.”
Arnav kissed her forehead and then her stomach, “Sleep my love.” She snuggled into his arms and they fell asleep.
